An immersive audiovisual exploration of human links to upland ecosystems, The Same Hillside transports viewers to the remote but highly productive area between Moffat and Abington, where three of Scotland’s mightiest rivers, the Annan, Clyde and Tweed, begin.
Using documentary video, audio field recordings and extensive interviews, artist filmmaker John Wallace has captured the experiences and memories of those living and working in the area. Through live links to environmental sensors that react to changing conditions and trigger different audiovisual sequences, this is a unique viewing experience that highlights the impact of our modern lives on Scotland’s resource heartland.
The Same Hillside also is also a remarkable artistic and scientific collaboration, having been created by John in conjunction with soil scientist Professor Pete Smith and the Crichton Carbon Centre.
