Nearly 60 years after his first visit to the Great Barrier Reef, David Attenborough returns to his favourite place in the natural world aboard the Alucia, a research vessel equipped with latest technology. At nearly 90 years old, he’s embarking on a journey which allows him to understand the reef as never before using a variety of innovative technology: satellite time-lapse shows the reef’s constant fluctuations, night vision reveals the previously unseen habits, specialist graphics strip the water from the reef and real science shows us what is still being discovered. However, the Reef is now seriously under threat having lost almost half its coral since his first visit and David is determined to discover how it can be saved.  His quest takes him to the deepest part of the reef in a hi-tech Triton submersible to collect corals that may help scientists better understand about its future.
